Why Isn't My Pressure Washing Website Showing Up on Google? 7 Causes (2026)

Short answer: it's almost always one of seven things. Google hasn't indexed your site, you have no Google Business Profile, one generic homepage is trying to rank for everything, you have no reviews, the site is slow with thin copy, the domain is brand new, or you're targeting national keywords instead of suburb-level ones. Work the list top to bottom. Most owners find the culprit in the first three, and most of the fixes cost nothing.

You paid for a website, or built one yourself, and months later it's invisible. You search "pressure cleaning" plus your own suburb, scroll past hipages, past Airtasker, past a couple of competitors, and your name never comes up. Annoying, but fixable. Before you spend another dollar, work through the seven causes below in the order they're most likely to hit a pressure washing business. Each one comes with the fix.

1. Google hasn't indexed your site

Google does not automatically know your website exists. If nothing links to it and you never told Google directly, it can sit undiscovered for months while your competitors collect the calls.

Check in ten seconds: search site:yourdomain.com.au in Google. No results means you're not indexed at all.

The fix: set up Google Search Console. It's free and takes about 20 minutes. Verify your domain, submit your sitemap, then run URL Inspection on your homepage and key pages and hit Request Indexing. A week later the Pages report shows what Google has indexed and what it skipped, with reasons. One classic trap: developers often tick a "discourage search engines" setting or leave a noindex tag on while the site is hidden during the build. If that stays on after launch, you're actively asking Google to ignore you.

2. You don't have a Google Business Profile

For "pressure cleaning near me" searches, the map pack sits above every website result, and a big share of local searches never scroll past it. No profile means no map pack, no matter how good the site underneath is.

The fix: claim and verify your Google Business Profile. Set the right primary category, list the suburbs you actually service, upload real before-and-after photos every month, and fill in your services. Most of your competitors set theirs up once years ago and never touched it again, so even a worked profile moves you within weeks. The full local playbook is in my guide to pressure washing SEO in Australia.

3. One generic page is trying to rank for everything

If your whole website is one homepage saying "we do house washing, driveways, roofs, gutters, right across the city", you own one page where you need twenty. Google ranks individual pages, and a page can realistically chase one service in one area, not every service across a capital city.

The fix: one page per service you offer, and one page per suburb or suburb cluster you actually want to work. Each page needs unique copy, local job photos, and a review from that area. Copy-pasting the same paragraph with a new suburb name swapped in will hurt you, not help you. For a proper checklist of what those pages should contain, see what a pressure washing website should include.

4. You have no reviews

Two problems here. First, review count and recency feed directly into map pack rankings. Second, when a customer does find you, a profile with three reviews from 2022 reads as inactive or unreliable next to a competitor with a steady stream.

The fix: ask every customer, automatically. The day a job is marked done, an SMS goes out with your Google review link, with one polite reminder two days later if they haven't clicked. Never pay for reviews or discount for them, that breaches Google's rules and can get your profile pulled. And reply to every review, including the rough ones. A calm, professional reply to a 2-star review convinces more readers than a page of 5-stars.

5. The site is slow, heavy, and thin on content

Your customer is on a phone, standing in their driveway, comparing two businesses between sips of coffee. If your site drags on mobile, they leave before your logo finishes loading. Page-builder sites are the usual offenders: stacks of scripts and animations nobody asked for.

Thin copy is the other half. If your homepage is 150 words of "professional, reliable, fully insured", Google has nothing to rank you for, because the same sentence exists on ten thousand other tradie sites.

The fix: fast, mostly static pages, and real copy on each one. What the service costs, what's included, which suburbs you cover, photos from actual jobs. Want to see what fast feels like on a phone? 6. Your domain is brand new

Sometimes nothing is wrong except time. A fresh domain has no history, no links, and no reviews, and Google treats it accordingly until it earns trust. That takes a few months of steady signals: pages being indexed, photos going up, reviews coming in.

The trap is ripping the site down and rebuilding it at week six because "it's not working". You reset the clock every time. Keep feeding it instead. And plan around the Australian calendar: residential pressure cleaning peaks in the pre-Christmas months, so a site launched in spring has time to bed in before the summer rush, while one launched in November is starting from behind.

7. You're targeting national keywords

"Pressure cleaning Australia", or even "pressure cleaning Sydney", is a fight against hipages and the other directories, which own the broad terms and charge subscribers $139–$649 a month for leads shared with other operators. A one-truck business will not outgun that, and it doesn't need to.

The person searching "driveway cleaning Penrith" is hotter, and far easier to win, than the person searching a capital-city term. The fix: point every page and your Business Profile at the specific suburbs you want to work. Less competition, hotter intent, and when the phone rings the lead is yours alone, not shared with three competitors who got the same SMS.

Questions owners ask when their site won't show up

How do I check if my pressure washing website is on Google?

Search site:yourdomain.com.au in Google. Zero results means you're not indexed. The more useful check is Google Search Console: the Pages report lists every URL Google has found, which ones are indexed, and which it excluded, with the reason why.

How long does a new pressure washing website take to show up on Google?

Indexing can happen within days of submitting your sitemap in Search Console. Ranking is the slow part: a new domain usually needs a few months of steady signals, pages, photos, reviews, before it competes for real search terms. Consistency beats intensity.

Why does my competitor show up and I don't when we do the same work?

Usually one of three things. They told Google their site exists and you haven't. They have a worked Google Business Profile with reviews and you don't. Or they have separate pages for each service and suburb while you're running one generic homepage. All three are fixable without spending more money.

Do I need an SEO agency to fix this?

Most of this list is DIY in your off-season: Search Console, your Business Profile, review requests, and page copy cost nothing. Pay for the website structure if it's wrong, and be sceptical of ongoing retainers until there's something worth optimising. Guaranteed rankings in 30 days is a red flag, not a promise.

Will rebuilding my website fix my rankings?

Only if the rebuild changes the structure. A prettier version of the same one-page site will rank exactly as poorly as the old one. You need indexable pages for each service and suburb, fast load times, real copy, and something that captures the enquiry and follows it up.

Want a site that's built to be found?
